A cottage near Bath ....continued
This high dark stairwell offered the opportunity for dramatic decorative lighting. Here, multiple pendants emerge from one canopy, as they spiral downwards they mirror the shape of a nearby spiral staircase. This bespoke fitting will be viewed from different heights and angles on the stairway, therefore it offers glare free interest from all points of view.
The home owner requested that bedside table lamps not be used for reading as bedside space was at a premium. Therefore, bedside lighting is served with two, wall mounted, flexible arm lamps, where the design of the shade allows the lamps to be stored flat against the wall. The location and flexibility of the lamps provide optimal illumination for bedside reading. Adjustable lighting is essential for reading in bed and these lamps can be individually dimmed at the bedside.
An ornate crystal chandelier adds an unexpected and sophisticated touch to a cottage bedroom. The antique chandelier is lit by discrete halogen spots which add sparkle to the crystal and cast dramatic shapes and shadows around the bedroom.
Task lighting is used where a high level of illumination is required, such as reading, therefore a floor lamp is situated next to the daybed for reading. The brightness can be readily adjusted by dimmers or switched off when not in use without disrupting the overall lighting ambience in the room. The scene controller sited at the main entrance allows scenes to be selected and fine adjustments to be made to the lighting moods in the room. The large inglenook fireplace is discreetly lit from within by tungsten halogen lamps to create a focus to the sitting room, and provide a soft ambient fill light to the room.
